President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev met with Akhylbek Kurishbayev, a formed agriculture minister and currently Dean of Seifulin Kazakh Agrotechnical University, to discuss development of Kazakhstan's agriculture, Tengrinews reports citing the presidential press-service. Akhylbek Kurishbayev reported on the university's progress in establishment of an international agricultural research hub on the base of the Kazakh Agrotechnical University. "KazAgroInnovation company is dealing with agriculture development in Kazakhstan. It has a lot of R&D institutes. Every year Kazakhstan Government allocates substantial funding for the company. But the interaction between the research organizations and the farms remains insufficient,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said. Continuing his criticism the Kazakhstan President pointed out even though Kazakhstan possessed ample land and human resources, its agriculture was still not developing fast enough. Kazakhstan should implement proven international technologies in its agroindustry, bearing in mind the Kazakhstan-specific conditions when introducing them, he said. "We can collect a good harvest only when the weather is good and there is enough rain. Of course, the productivity of our agriculture has grown compared to the previous years, but we need to continued working hard in achieve better results. The Government provides enough funding for it," the President of Kazakhstan said. In a government meeting last month, President Nazarbayev called to attract more investments into Kazakhstan agroindustry. "These should preferably be foreign investments channeled into development of advanced agricultural science in Kazakhstan. We depend on rain, but go boasting about our achievements. However, there are several farms in Kazakhstan that are capable to generating at least an average yield regardless of the weather conditions," the President said.
