Kazakhstan is ranked 34th in the global competitiveness rating of the Institute of Management Development (IMD). The World Competitiveness Scoreboard-2013 lists 60 countries. The first place was given to the United States that held the 2nd place in 2012. They are followed by Switzerland (the 3rd place in 2012). Last year’s leader Hong Kong is rated third this year. Sweden is ranked fourth (5th in 2012), Singapore is in the fifth place (4th in 2012). The top 10 countries also include Norway (8th in 2012), Canada (6th in 2012), the UAE (16th in 2012), Germany (also 9th in 2012) and Qatar (also 10th in 2012). Kazakhstan lost two lines in the 2013 rating. It was ranked 32rd in 2012. Russia gained 6 lines and is ranked 42nd. Ukraine was 49th and gaining 7 lines in this year's ranking. The UAE is this year’s breakthrough: it leaped from the 16th position in 2012 to the 8th place this year. Greece also improved its position, moving from the 58th to the 54th place. In September 2012 the World Economic Forum gave Kazakhstan the 51st line in the annual competitiveness rating of global economies .
