Nursultan Nazarbayev met with President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa in Astana, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Kazakhstan President's press-service. "Your state visit has coincided with the 20th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries. We have a good opportunity to exchange opinions on the current issues and get to know each other better. I am sure that this meeting will boost cooperation of our countries in different areas: economy, politics and culture," Kazakhstan President said. In his turn, President of Sri Lanka thanked Nazarbayev for his warm welcome and hospitality. "This reflects the warm and friendly relations between our countries. Visiting the city (Astana), I could witness the progress your country has achieved under your wise leadership. This is also confirmed by the beauty of your capital. I think that my visit will help us identify the areas we can cooperate in," Rajapaksa stressed. "Today we have signed an agreement in tourism. We are now about to sign fundamental agreements on economic cooperation, protection of mutual investments and elimination of double taxation. Our nearest plan is to form a Kazakhstan-Lankan inter-government commission for trade and economic cooperation," Nursultan Nazarbayev said. Kazakhstan President also noted that cooperation of the two countries in light industry and, in particular, in production of textile goods, holds a lot of promise as Sri Lanka exports all kinds of clothes. Nursultan Nazarbayev expressed interest in cooperation in agriculture, transport and energy. Besides, the President thanked his colleague for supporting Kazakhstan in its bid to host EXPO-2017. "I also showed President Nazarbayev our strong intention to support Kazakhstan's bid to host EXPO-2017 in Astana at the voting to be held this week. Kazakhstan is in excellent position and has ample potential to host this international exhibition, especially since it strives to become an economic hub of the Eurasian continent," President of Sri Lanka said.
