The Minister of Economic Integration of Kazakhstan Zhanar Aitzhanova talked about the financial aid to Ukraine during the International Conference in Support of Ukraine.

“The Government of Kazakhstan has recently decided to render financial aid to the Chernobyl Shelter Fund and allocate an additional €1 million,” Aitzhanova said.

The Chernobyl Shelter Fund established in 1997 aims ещ protect the personnel, population and environment from the threat of the Chernobyl radioactive disaster. It is planned to transform the Shelter into a stable and environmentally safe system.

In 2011, Kazakhstan rendered €2 million for the construction of the NSC in Chernobyl. Earlier, Kazakhstan sent 300 tons of humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Kazakhstan is now gathering the second batch of humanitarian aid.

According to Ukrainian media, the construction of the NSC requires €500 million. The NSC is designed to prevent leakage of radioactive material into the environment and allow a partial demolition of the old structure in future. The completion of the project is scheduled to 2017.
