Kazakhstan Labor Minister Abdenov dismissed

Serik Abdenov has been relieved of position of Kazakhstan Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the official Twitter of Kazakhstan President’s press-service. “Serik Abdenov has been relieved of his position of Kazakhstan Minister of Labor and Social Protection by a presidential decree,” the message states. Vice-Minister of Labor and Social Protection Tamara Duissenova was appointed acting Minister. The dismissal may be linked to President's dissatisfaction with the pension reform. On June 7 Nursultan Nazarbayev returned the pension reform draft to the Parliament. According to the President the government and the Labor Ministry failed to successfully represent the draft law in public discussions and assert its importance in the people’s minds. The President suggested to start the gradual raise of the retirement age for women not from January 1, 2014 but from January 1, 2018. Besides, he instructed the government to work out measures for further modernization of the pension system until 2030 and develop mechanisms of efficient investment of the pension money into projects in the most promising sectors of the economy. Serik Abdenov received bad publicity after he said at a retirement reform meeting in Karaganda: "You all have to work, because, my dear countrymen, just because, just because...” Abdenov became the most cited politician in Kazakhstan after the video appeared on the Internet. A Just because. Just because group was opened in social networks and its members organized a flashmob, taking photos at their work desks with signs stating: “I have to work till 63, just because, just because”. At the press-conference in Almaty Abdenov explained that he just wanted “to alter the mood in the room and calm everyone down”. At the same press-conference activist Andrey Tsukanov expressed his protest against the retirement reforms by throwing eggs at the Minister.
