The extradition of convicted Kazakhstan nationals from Italy has been validated by a treaty this week, Tengrinews reports citing the press-service of the General Prosecutor's Office of Kazakhstan. The document was signed by the General Prosecutor of Kazakhstan Askhat Daulbayev and Italian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Alberto Pieri. The interstate treaty on transfer of convicted criminals to serve their sentences in their home country was signed in the framework of the reforms to humanize the Kazakhstan penal system and in an effort to enhance legal protection of the citizens abroad, the press-service says. "Both countries will have the legal right to transfer their citizens to their home countries. This will ease the punishment for the convicted persons, because serving a sentence in a correctional custody facility of a foreign country limits the convict's communication with the family and is marred by a language barrier. Besides, this will help achieve the goal of bringing the sentenced people back to the normal lives in the society," the General Prosecutor's Office explained. Earlier this week the Kazakhstan Parliament ratified a similar agreements on extradition of sentenced Kazakhstan nationals from China and Turkey. Now 10 out of 15 Kazakhstan nationals sentenced in China can return back to their home country. According to the available information there are at least two Kazakhstan convicts serving their sentences in Turkish prisons.
