Presidential election in Kazakhstan is just a few days away. People of Kazakhstan can cast their votes for one of the three candidates: the incumbent President Nursultan Nazarbayev, nominee from the Communist Turgun Syzdykov and self-nominee Abelgazi Kusainov, a former Senator and ex-Minister of Transport and Communications.

Ahead of the election on April 14, the Central Election Commission assured that the system that stores all the documents, records, and digital data is well protected, Tengrinews reports.

Speaking at a round table meeting dedicated to Modern Election Technology: Experience and Practice in Astana, Kazakhstan Central Election Commission (CEC) member Marat Sarsenbayev noted that all the regions of the country had people who were specifically trained to keep all the data related to the electoral process secure.

"These people are safeguarding your data. Because, you know, there are cases of hacking. By the way, such case once happened and then measures were taken. Now we have a separate connection, which is not dependent on the Internet. We can work inside the secluded system so that there are no hacks and attempts to access the data or make changes, and spread chaos. The system is very complerensive and the information security is high," Marat Sarsenbayev said.

According to him, Kazakhstan registered 9,514,988 voters. Across the country, 9741 polling stations were set up, where 70,000 people will work on the election day.

Marat Sarsenbayev informed that an interactive SMS-service was launched in Astana to held people find their polling stations.

The CEC member said that preparations for the elections were in full swing, but there was few to no activity from the presidential candidates in the usage of Internet resources and there was little information about them on social networks.

“Our three candidates and their trustees do not actively use Facebook or Twitter,” he said. “Nevertheless, they keep some basic information about them on Facebook and Twitter, such as the address of their headquarters and other contact information. I specifically searched for it. Especially the Communists, they actively use online resources," Sarsenbayev said.
