Brazil President Dilma Rousseff narrowly trailed challenger Aecio Neves in latest opinion polls ahead of their October 26 election showdown, a survey showed Thursday, AFP reports.

Neves, who upset predictions to eliminate environmentalist and early front-runner Marina Silva in Sunday's first round, was polling 46 percent to 44 for Rousseff, according to polls for Ibope and Datafolha institutes for Globo television and Estado de Sao Paulo newspaper.

The two percent margin of error left the candidates in a technical dead heat on a sample of 3,010 voters interviewed on October 7 and 8.

Six percent of voters said they would spoil their ballots and another four percent were still undecided.

Rousseff, of the Workers Party which has been in power since 2003, topped Sunday's first round with 44 percent to 33.6 for Neves but the latter is the first candidate to move in front ahead of a run-off starting from second place since 1989.
