Austria has assured that the cows imported to North-Kazakhstan oblast were healthy upon their arrival in Kazakhstan, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the press-release of the Embassy of Austria to Kazakhstan. “Austria pays huge attention to safety of its consumers and the animals’ health and is proud of its stable highly developed agricultural sector that exports cattle around the world. Based on scientific facts, Austria firmly refutes the statements that Kazakhstan’s agricultural security suffered from import of Austrian cattle to Poltavskoye and Leonov farms,” the message states. Over 700 elite Simmental cows purchased in Austria would be killed in Poltavskoye and Leonov farms of North-Kazakhstan oblast. Schmallenberg virus and virus diarrhea imported with cattle are allegedly the reason. However, Austrian party refutes the information that any sick cattle was sold to Kazakhstan. The checks made by two independent referent laboratories of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) certify that no animals infected by virus diarrhea virus were exported to Kazakhstan from Austria. This is also certified by the tests made in Austria. No cases of Schmallenberg virus were registered in Austria during cattle export to Kazakhstan. And the official veterinary export certificate did not have any guarantees against Schmallenberg virus. Based on that, the Austrian party insists that the cattle did not expose other animals in Kazakhstan to any risk. Austria also refutes the statements that the country’s authorities allegedly offered apologies for import of infected animals to Kazakhstan.
