Astana and Finnish Oulu become twin-cities

The talks between Presidents of Kazakhstan and Finland finished in signing of bilateral documents, Tengrinews.kz reports. The documents also include a memorandum of establishment of twin-city relations between Astana and Oulu. “We have noted very good prospects for cooperation in transport, construction and tourism. A memorandum of establishment of twin-city relations between Astana and Oulu has been signed today,” Nazarbayev said at the end of the talks. “We consider interaction in agricultural goods processing and in the agrarian complex in general very promising. During the talks I invited Finnish businessmen to create joint processing facilities in agriculture and cattle-breeding,” he continued. He also said that they discussed expansion of participation of Finnish business in projects aimed at diversification of Kazakhstan’s economy. “The volume of bilateral trade reached $800 million last year. This is 70 percent more than Kazakhstan’s aggregate commodity turnover with other countries of Northern Europe,” Nazarbayev said. The visit of Finnish President to Kazakhstan also included adoption of a declaration on partnership in green economy and modernization. By Renat Tashkinbayev
