The agreement on Kyrgyzstan’s accession into the Customs Union [of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus] is expected to be signed December 23, Russia’s RIA Novosti reports, citing Sapar Issakov, Vice Head of the Kyrgyz President’s Staff.

“The agreement on Kyrgyzstan’s accession into the Customs Union is to be signed December 23 (…) upon signing, the agreement is to be ratified at the national level”, Mr. Issakov said. The agreement is to be signed at the sitting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Union with Kyrgyzstan President Almazbek Atambayev among those in attendance.

Back May 29 in Astana at the sitting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Union the sides signed an action plan to facilitate Kyrgyzstan’s accession into the Customs Union.

Earlier the country’s media reported that accession of Kyrgyzstan might take place as early as in March 2014. To facilitate implementation of the Roadmap program to ensure Kyrgyzstan’s accession into the Customs Union, Kazakhstan has agreed to earmark $100 million. This money will be channeled to develop the country’s agriculture and veterinary services, including construction of a lab to control the quality of agricultural produce and ensure proper quality of foods to be exported to the other Customs Union member states.
