Voter turnout for the upcoming presidential elections is expected to reach 70 percent by the Information and Analysis Center in Almaty, Tengrinews reports.
The survey was made in Almaty city alone on April 3-10 at the request of Almaty's Internal Policy Department. 1,200 randomly selected respondents were interviewed face-to-face.
"The results show that the expected turnout is about 70 percent. Almaty natives and people who have been living in Almaty for the past ten years tend to be more active in the elections," the Almaty Mayor’s office said.
The collected data showed that the level of awareness of the upcoming presidential elections was high - 98.7 percent of Almaty residents knew the exact date of the elections. In addition, 91.7 percent of those who plan to vote know the locate of their polling station.
8.4 percent of the respondents said they did not intending to vote. "This figure is changing. Just two weeks ago, the number of respondents who planned to refrain from voting was at 11.3 percent," the Mayor's office said.
