Member of the U.S. Congress suggested to nominate Nursultan Nazarbayev for the Nobel Peace Prize, Tengrinews.kz reports from the International Nuclear-Free World Forum in Astana. “Making the right choice President Nazarbayev decided to eliminate the fourth largest arsenal of nuclear weapons and close the world’s second-largest nuclear testing site. The President’s decision was both heroic and principal. This is a decision that changed the world and we have to remember it forever. I keep calling the Nobel Prize commission to acknowledge the work of Mr. Nazarbayev,” Eni Faleomavaega said during the Forum. He called to appreciate the work of Nursultan Nazarbayev in nonproliferation of nuclear weapons. “Nursultan Nazarbayev made a decision that changed a course of the nation’s progress. In the period from 1949 to 1991 the former Soviet Union was using Semipalatinsk as a nuclear testing site, where over 500 nuclear blasts were made causing radiation exposure of over 1.5 million people,” congressman said. He also mentioned Kazakhstan’s choice to give up the world’s fourth-largest arsenal of nuclear weapons. Faleomavaega tagged Nazarbayev’s decision heroic and principal. “It was a decision that changed the world,” he said.
