Norwegian Bike for Peace proposed to put forth Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan, for the Nobel Peace Prize, Interfax-Kazakhstan reports. The cyclists have sent respective letters to the US Congress, Norwegian Storting (legislative assembly) and to Northern Ireland MP Mairead Corrigan. The Irish PM supported the idea of nominating Nazarbayev for the high prize. “On August 29, 2010, Kazakhstan and the whole world celebrated the first International Day against Nuclear Tests. The idea to make this day an international celebrated date was put forth by Nazarbayev and approved by the UN consensus. That is why we believe that President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev is a worthy candidate for the Noble Peace Prize of 2012-2013,” the statement of the leader of Bike for Peace Tore Naerland said. Norwegians will make a cycling tour across Kazakhstan on August 6-29. The event is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of closure of the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site. In September 2010 International Association of Turkic Speaking Nations also initiated nomination of Nazarbayev for the Nobel Peace Prize.
