Presentation of Astana's bid to host EXPO-2017 was held at the 151st General Assembly of the International Exhibitions Bureau in Paris, KazTAG writes citing the press-service of Astana administration. "Today we are presenting the young capital of Kazakhstan. And this is our main advantage. Youth is helped forward by hope and a dream. Astana is different from many cities with centuries-long histories by the fact that every our achievement is new and happen for the first time," the press-service cited Astana Akim (Mayor) Imangali Tasmagambetov as saying. According to him, "there is no issue on our agenda that is more important than this milestone forum" for a city. "We understand that this spirit has to be supported financially and in terms of organization. We can guarantee that we have all the components," the Akim said. Tasmagambetov reminded of the major events held in Astana: OSCE summit, 7th Winter Asian Games, Congresses of World and Traditional Religions and many others important international events. "The main pillar is the special attention of our President to Astana. Taking part in such a serious competition, we rely upon the understanding of the global mission of the EXPO. It is multifaceted and universal: to support and continue the humanity's strive to change the world for the better. Being a young capital, we can significantly strengthen this mission," he said. Tasmagambetov stressed that "throughout its whole history EXPO has never yet been held in a cities with such a special spirit, culture and rich nomadic traditions". "We moved our capital in just several years after the collapse of the Soviet economic system. Moreover, this event coincided with the peak of the grave Asian crisis. Even amid such conditions we achieved impressive results that serve as a foundation for justification of our strive to get the right to host this large-scale forum," the Akim said. "Astana will do everything to make this event, to be held in 5 years, full of friendship, faith and hope," Tasmagambetov told the presentation participants in Paris. According to him, the volume of industrial production increase 11-fold since the time of the capital was transfered. Despite of the complicated situation in the world, the volume of attracted investments grew almost 30 times and the gross regional product went 90 times up. 10 million square meters of housing has been built since the time when Astana became the capital of Kazakhstan, with 4 million square meters built in the last 3 years alone. Akim noted that the territory of the facility that is to hose EXPO-2017 would cover over 100 hectares and will offer 97 pavilions. Tasmagambetov stressed that the issue of further use of EXPO facilities had also been considered. "The President decided to create an exhibition site for achievements of Kazakhstan's science and technologies at the EXPO area. Hosting EXPO will be followed by creation of a multi-functional space with scientific centers and centers of nature and cultural heritage," the message stated. "We are confident that this exhibition center will not be just a bulk of facilities, but a progressive idea of human development in future," Tasmagambetov assured.
