Nazarbayev met with Nobel prize-winners and representatives of international organizations

Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev met with Nobel prize-winners and representatives of the international organizations on the sidelines of the 5th Astana Economic Forum, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the President’s press-service. The President noted that the Forum gathered world-famous theorists and practitioners. “Science should be the contemporary locomotive capable of solving pressing issues relevant to all countries. The whole world, watching the forum, will be waiting for new ideas and suggestions,” the President said. Nazarbayev stressed that the world keeps feeling the pressure of the crisis and if the global currency system is not reformed, the next crisis will be more large-scale and catastrophic. “That’s why I’m deeply convinced that the most constructive way out is through introduction of a common world currency of a new class,” he noted. At the meeting with Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Francis Gurry the President noted that Kazakhstan took a range of measures and introduced certain amendments to the legislation to ensure protection of copyright. Nazarbayev noted that WIPO recommendations are very important to Kazakhstan with the coming WTO accession. In his turn, Gurry stressed that Kazakhstan achieved good results in copyright protection. Nazarbayev also met with representatives of the UN, IMF and WTO. The President noted that Kazakhstan attaches much significance to holding Astana Economic Forum. “This is how we contribute into stability of the global economy. Every year the forum gathers more and more participants; its international importance grows as well. Your active participation in this event is important for us,” Nazarbayev told the guests. Kazakhstan President also met with the Chairman of the Board, CEO of ExxonMobil Rex Tillerson. Nazarbayev stated that Kazakhstan wished to continue developing cooperation with the corporation. “We are all interested in implementation of Kashagan project. All the issues related to the project have been approved. Your company is also actively participating in the Council of Foreign Investors. ExxonMobil is an important partner for Kazakhstan, as it helps us dynamically develop our national economy and effectively explore our natural resources,” the President said. In his turn, Tillerson also expressed his confidence in further development of partnership with Kazakhstan.
