Women with Masters degrees earn less than men in Kazakhstan

According to the survey of Kazakhstan Statistics Agency, Kazakhstan women get Masters degrees more frequently than men, but earn less, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Mojazarplata.kz. According to the Agency, 63.6 percent of women and 36.4 percent of men in Kazakhstan get Masters degrees. 70 percent of men and 30 percent of women get postgraduate education. 58 percent of women and 42 percent of men get Doctors degrees. “Despite of the fact that gender equality provides for equal remuneration of labor in Kazakhstan, women still earn less than men. Women’s unemployment level is higher (6.6 percent versus 4.9 percent of men’s unemployment),” Mojazarplata.kz writes. The principle of gender equality in the politics is not fully observed either. The percentage of women among Kazakhstan’s state employees is 9.4 percent. This is 0.9 percent less than in 2006. In 2010 women took 17.8 percent of seats in the Majilis (Lower Chamber of the Parliament) and 4.3 percent in the Senate (Upper Chamber of Parliament).
