The number of employable people is expected to be decreasing and the number of retired people will be growing in Kazakhstan starting from 2013, Tengrinews.kz reports citing chairman of Kazakhstan Statistics Agency Alikhan Smailov as saying at the extended meeting of the People’s Communists party called Retirement age problems. Raising women’s retirement age from 58 to 63. “Starting from 2013 we expect a decrease in the share of employable population and increase in the share of retirement age people, which will last until 2025-2026. This trend is related to demographic history of our country in the last century,” Smailov said. Chairman of the Agency gave provisional calculations until 2050. They are based on birthrate and life expectancy of 2011 and an average migration rate of the last 3 years. According to the calculations, starting from 2013, young people born after the year 1995 will enter the group of employable people. Birth rate was relatively low in 1995. “A large generation of the after-war baby-boom will enter the retirement age. These are men born after 1948 and women born after 1953,” Smailov said. According to him, the share of employable people made 63.6 percent of the total population, including 31.7 percent of women in 2012. By 2030 the share will go down to 58.3 percent. By 2050 it will reach 55.5 percent, including 26.5 percent of women. As for the retirement age population, the chairman of the Agency said that their share made 10 percent of the total population, including 7.2 percent of women in 2012. This value is expected to grow to 13.6 percent by 2030 and reach 15.3 percent by 2050, including 10.7 percent of women. “This way the expected increase of the retirement age population in 2013-2050 and decrease of the share of employable people will, unfortunately, cause a significant increase of the demographic load on the working population. For example, this year this coefficient made 158 retirement age people per 1 thousand of employable people. In 2030 it will be 234 per one thousand and in 2050 it will reach 277 per one thousand,” chairman of Kazakhstan Statistics Agency said. By Aidana Ussupova
