Gender inequality is lowering in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan has been placed 56th in the Gender Inequality Index (GII) ranking of countries , "Interfax-Kazakhstan" reports with a reference to Yuriy Shokamanov, head of the national accounts department of the Statistics Agency of Kazakhstan. “Kazakhstan’s Gender Inequality Index was estimated at 0.334, that entitles it to the 56th rank among 146 countries in 2011 ranking,” the agency reports. In 2008 when a similar gender inequality researched was made, Kazakhstan was estimated at 0.557 was placed 67th. Shokamanov says that women in Kazakh government make up 13.6%. Approximately 92% of women received secondary and higher education, whereas among men this percentage is 95%. The gap at the labor market is not overly big either: 65.7% women and 76.3% men are employed.
