Participants of the international expedition to K2 reached the second camp at 6,550 meters. Kazakhstan alpinists Maksut Zhumayev and Vassiliy Pivtsov will spend their first night at such height. “Before we thought that the second camp is at 6,300m, but right now my watch is showing 6,550m. This is the first time me and Vassiliy have gotten to such height. It would be better to spend a night at 7,600-7,800 m. It would be good for acclimatization,” Zhumayev told Tengrinews.kz. Bad weather made the third advancement difficult for the team of alpinists: “Strong wind was blowing snow into our faces. This was unpleasant and slowed us down. The bad thing is that the blowing wind wiped off the paths that we ]made last time.” The trip from the intermediate to the second camp took a lot of alpinists' energy. Currently sportsmen are restoring energy and discussing their plans for tomorrow, July 22. “As long as the weather and our physical condition let us, we will work towards the third camp. Maximum goal is to reach it and spend a night in it. The weather is good in general, apart from strong wind and snow being blown off the top of the mount, but it is not too bad. The most important is that there is no storm,” the alpinist added. Chogori is located in Karakorum mountain system in Kashmir province at the territory of Pakistan. Its height is 8,611 meters.
