Participants of the international expedition to Chogori reached the first camp at K2. Further ascend might be suspended because of bad weather, Kazakhstan alpinist Maksut Zhumayev told Tengrinews.kz. “Again there is more snow out on the mount than we expected. That is why it took us so long to reach the first camp. There is even more snow higher along the slope. There are about 10-20 cm of snow. It is cloudy now, while the forecasts promised sunny weather. We will see what happens tomorrow and will continue our ascend,” Zhumayev said. Kazakhstan alpinist, however, noted that in case the weather gets worse, the expedition will not take risks and will go back to the base camp: “We hope that it will be sunny and we will be able to work, but if something serious happens, we will go back. There are no changes in plans yet, tomorrow morning we will go towards the second camp.” Despite of the difficult conditions and the complicated ascent to the first camp, the participants of the expedition still retain their sense of humor. “While I’m talking with you now, my friends are screaming “Landslide! Landslide!”, scaring me. But this is how they joke. Everything is well. Of course, snow is tough and dangerous, we hope that it will be cold at night, everything freezes and we will be able to get to the second camp without any problems," Kazakhstan sportsman added. The expedition is planning to spend 3-4 days at the mount and set the third camp at 7,100-7,400 meters. Chogori is located in Karakorum mountain system in Kashmir province at the territory of Pakistan. Its height is 8,611 meters.
