Kazakhstan team won gold in Ice Hockey Championship, Kiev

Kazakhstan national ice hockey team won gold in the Division I Group B of the World Ice Hockey Championship, Britain got silver and Ukraine got bronze. With the 3-2 overtime win over host-country Ukraine Kazakhstan returned to the elite division for 2012 after just one-year absence, Tengrinews.kz reports referring to the Ice Hockey Federation of Kazakhstan . To win its silver Great Britain had to beat Poland 3-2. Kazakhstan’s victory over Ukraine was the team’s fifths straight victory in the World Ice Hockey Championship. Before crushing Ukraine, Kazakhstan won Poland, Lithuania, Great Britain and Estonia. The team’s last match against Ukraine wasn’t an easy one. When the regulation time (three 20-minute periods) run out the two teams tied 2:2. It was during the overtime that Kazakh team’s Fyodor Polishuk managed to land a pluck into Ukrainian gates at 2:01, putting an end to Ukraine hopes of returning to the elite division. It was a physical, fast-skating game with stickwork aplenty in front of the net and along the boards, Lucas Aykroyd wrote at the iihf official website. Roman Savchenko from Kazakhstan was selected the Best Defenceman of the tournament. “We clearly understood that today’s match was going to be tough and we were preparing for it.
