SOC anti-terrorist drills take place in Kyrgyzstan

Members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) had joint anti terrorist military drills in Kyrgyzstan, Tengrinews reports citing the press office of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Defense.


Members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) had joint anti terrorist military drills in Kyrgyzstan, Tengrinews reports citing the press office of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Defense.

On April 21, military troops from Kazakhstan, Russia, China, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan began the joint training at the base of Scorpion special force of Kyrgyzstan. SCO special forces used the base to practice joint methods of combating terrorists for five days.

At the base they practiced rescuing hostages from buildings and eliminating terrorists, blocking enemies in buildings, laying charges, acting as fire support team, assault force and mission support team.

In Samsi gorge they practiced blocking and eliminating militants in complicated mountainous areas. Their training included setting up zip lines, ascending and descending steep mountain slopes using mountaineering equipment. 

The international military teams also practiced storming vehicles carrying armed militants.

"The main goal of the drills which are being held at an oil tank farm and at a Gazprom Neft Asia gas station is to drill actions of the operations headquarters in an anti-terrorism operation amid a real threat. At military exercises the release of hostages taken by imaginary terrorists will be also drilled. (...) All skills drilled today seek to build up combat readiness of specific structures to fulfil tasks in the fight against international terrorism and prevention of emergency situations," the the Kyrgyz National Security State Committee is quoted as saying by ITAR TASS.
