President Vladimir Putin has signed an agreement on military-technical cooperation with Kazakhstan on September 18, Tengrinews reports citing RIA Novosti.

Russia’s strongman designated Deputy Defense Minister of Russia Nikolay Pankov as his representative for the consideration of the agreement in the Federal Assembly.

The agreement will ease the supply of weapons between the two countries. At the present moment, Russian companies without a license cannot participate in the military technical cooperation.

Earlier it was reported that the document would be similar to the agreement between Russia and Belarus. According to the agreement the countries will supply each other military products possessing the same characteristics and the same configuration as the ones they produce for their own armed forces, while the prices will be set in accordance with the laws of the supplier.

Military cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan has been deep historically. The two countries signed the basic treaty of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance back in 1992 after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Before that both countries used to be  part of the Communist state.

In November 2013, the two presidents signed the Agreement on Good-Neighbourliness and Alliance in the 21st Century. It seeks to deepen the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Russia to realize the full potential of the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space.

Latest media reports suggest Russia plans to set up two stations of the System of Differential Correction and Monitoring (SDCM) for GLONASS in Kazakhstan. Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS) is Russia’s most advanced satellite monitoring system developed as an alternative to the Global Positioning System (GPS) of the US and future systems Galileo and BeiDou developed by EU and China respectively.
