Kazakhstan is ready to take on Russia’s state defense order. Defense Minister of Kazakhstan Serik Akhmetov made the statement during his meeting with Russian Military-Industrial Commission Deputy Head Oleg Bochkarev, Tengrinews reports from Moscow.

The military officials discussed further integration of the military-industrial complexes of the two countries and creation of joint ventures for production of a wide range of military-purposed products.

The two countries have a military-and-technical cooperation program for 2014-2016 and the Kazakh Minister proposed to make the Russian public procurement order part of it.

"As you know, this program actually provides for implementation of joint projects in production, repair and modernization of weapons and military equipment," the Minister said.

Akhmetov assured his counterpart of the capacity and willingness of the local companies to refocus their operations to meet Russia's needs, and called for a more active participation of Kazakhstani defense enterprises in implementation of the Russian state defense order.

On Wednesday this week, before Akhmetov's trip to Moscow, the President of Kazakhstan Nazarbayev had a meeting with Minister Akhmetov, where he stressed the importance of further development of Kazakhstan's defence industry and strengthening military and technical cooperation with leading international manufacturers of military equipment.

Kazakhstan and Russia share over 7,500 km of common border and strong historic ties, so military co-operation is a lasting tradition for the two countries.
