Kazakhstani tank crews have won the 2nd place in the overall team event and the 3rd place in the individual trail race at the Tank Biathlon 2014, Tengrinews reports. The two-week international tank competition at Alabino dance near Moscow finished on August 16.
Two Russian crews won the first and the second places in the individual race and one of Kazakhstan's three crews won the third place.
Kazakhstan failed to achieve a winning spot in the Team Trial Race even through it was leading throughout the whole race. Its teams got several minutes of penalties and dropped to the fourth place with 1:34:11 seconds. If a tank grazes the track's fencing the crew gets a penalty of plus one minute to their overall time.
The Russian tank team won the gold finishing in 1:15:13 seconds, followed by Armenian team (1:20:03) with the silver medal and China (1:30:56) with the bronze.
“Despite the fact that this year the competition among teams was tougher, in the overall ranking the Kazakh team won the second place with 266 points. Russia won the first place with 294 points and China got the third place with 220 points,” the Kazakh Ministry of Defense said.
Bolat Aliev (L), Sergeant 3rd class, Kazakhstan, won The Best Gunner-Sniper award.
The winners of the competition were awarded by the Russian Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu. In addition, the governor of Moscow Oblast Andrey Vorobev gave the Kazakhstani team a special prize for “Team Spirit” and presented keys from a motorcycle and two scooters.
The Tank Biathlon aims to strengthen and develop cooperation of the military institutions of different countries. Angola, Armenia, Belarus, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Russia, Serbia and Venezuela participated in the competition from August 7-16.
