Kyrgyzstan to cut down on electric power exports to Kazakhstan in 2013 Tengrinews.kz

Kyrgyzstan will cut down on electric power exports to Kazakhstan in 2013, a Tengrinews.kz journalist reports. That was announced in the Kyrgyz Parliament by the country’s Minister of Energy and Industry Avtandil Kalmambetov. The major reason for reducing the power exports is the currently lower level of water in the Toktogul water reservoir. “There was no extra water accumulated during the winter season. Water consumption exceeds the inflow three-fold. We have to cut down on the power exports so that to meet the domestic demand for electric power”, he elaborated. In 2013 Kyrgyzstan plans to export about 500 million kilowatt-hours. According to the Kyrgyz Ministry of Energy and Industry, electric power exports to Kazakhstan back in 2011 made up 2.4 billion kilowatt-hours, with the figure reduced to 1.3 billion kilowatt-hours in 2012.
