KazAtomProm and China General Nuclear Power Corporation agree to jointly produce nuclear fuel

December 14 KazAtomProm National Nuclear Company and China General Nuclear Power Corporation signed an agreement to expand cooperation in the nuclear power industry. The document seeks to launch JVs based in Kazakhstan to produce nuclear fuel for nuclear fuel assemblies of China-based power plants and power plants of third countries and to jointly develop uranium.


December 14 KazAtomProm National Nuclear Company and China General Nuclear Power Corporation signed an agreement to expand cooperation in the nuclear power industry. The document seeks to launch JVs based in Kazakhstan to produce nuclear fuel for nuclear fuel assemblies of China-based power plants and power plants of third countries and to jointly develop uranium.

Samruk-Kazyna Sovereign Wealth Fund and State Grid Corporation of China also signed an agreement on strategic cooperation. The document lays foundations for construction of power plants and renewable energy power generating facilities in Kazakhstan, power supplies to China, transit of power across China to third countries, implementation of ultrahigh-voltage transmission technology, and wider use of coal, wind and solar capabilities in Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan Temir Zholy National Railways Operator and China Railways signed an agreement to develop freight transportation between Kazakhstan and China, freight traffic along the China-Kazakhstan-Europe and China-Kazakhstan-Central Asia routes. Furthermore, the two entities plan to expand the transborder crossings Dostyk-Alashankow and Altynkol-Khorgos and adjacent infrastructure, and boost container-assisted traffic.

CNPC and KazMunaiGas signed an agreement to expand technical cooperation at oil deposits of the South Turgai basin to boost oil production at Kumkol Uzhnyi oilfield. The two sides also agreed to intensify their cooperation in Kyzylorda oblast to consider transforming associated gas into liquefied hydrocarbons.

China International Water & Electric Corporation and Samruk-Energo signed a memorandum on cooperation to attract investments into the Kazakhstan’s power generation industry, notably renewable energy projects to ensure sufficient power generation in southern regions of Kazakhstan. The document sets main parameters to divert water from the Kensu River to Bestyube water reservoir.

KazMunaiGas Processing and Marketing, ChinaKinghoEnergyGroup, Arbat Ltd, Rarez Kuznetski Ltd. signed an agreement to develop coal chemistry industry in Kazakhstan to produce diesel fuel, synthetic natural gas and other petrochemistry products. The sides seek to launch a special vehicle to procure investments, designing and actual construction, and operation of the production facilities.

KTZ-Express and Lianyungang signed an agreement to strengthen international cargo transportation along the new Eurasian continental transport corridor. The agreement seeks to ensure regular container trains running along the China – Europe and China – Central Asia routes, involving the seaport of Lianyungang. The sides seek to expand capavilities of the Chinese- Kazakh logistics terminal and complete the railway access road to the joint terminal.
