Kazakhstan to be a partner in a major power plant project in Kyrgyzstan alongside Russia

Kazakhstan may consider participating in the project to construct the Kambarata-1 power plant in the neighboring Kyrgyzstan, with the project involving Russian investors as well, Newskaz.ru reports, citing the Kyrgyz PM Omurbek Babnov as saying on his visit to Kazakhstan February 22. “We have offered Kazakhstan to be the third party in the Kambarata-1 power plant project. We welcome Kazakhstan’s participation”, Mr. Babanov told a briefing. He elaborated that the two sides had agreed on launching a working group to define conditions for Kazakhstan to participate. The agreement between Kyrgyzstan and Russia on construction of the power plant came into force in spring 2009. The sides announced at the time that the project would be completed in 7 years’ time. Once the power plant is launched, Kyrgyzstan will be able to generate extra 40% of the currently generated power.
