The most expensive accommodation in Kazakhstan in January 2012 was registered in Almaty, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Kazakhstan Statistics Agency. One square meter of new housing costs 239.1 thousand tenge ($1,616) in Almaty in the beginning of 2012. Astana is in the second place with 182.3 thousand tenge ($1,232) per a square meter. Accommodation in Atyrau costs a little less: 179.2 thousand tenge ($1,211) per a square meter. Shymkent is the fifth in the rating with one meter of new housing costing 154 thousand tenge ($1,041). Zhezkazgan has the most affordable housing: 70 thousand tenge ($473) per a square meter. One square meter costs a little more in Kyzylorda (76.3 thousand tenge or $516), Taraz (82.3 thousand tenge or $556), Petropavlovsk (98 thousand tenge or $662) and Taldykorgan (100,4 thousand tenge or $678). The neutral part of the list is made of Pavlodar (143 thousand tenge or $966), Uralsk (137 thousand tenge or $926), Kokshetau (125.8 thousand tenge or $850), Ust-Kamenogorsk (110.3 thousand tenge or $745), Semei (110 thousand tenge or $743), Karaganda (109.7 thousand tenge or $741) and Aktobe (101.7 thousand tenge or $678).
