Let children drive, Kazakhstan Interior Minister says

Kazakhstan children will be officially allowed to drive vehicles, Tengrinews.kz reports. “As for children, whether you want it or not, they drive quads and other vehicles. They require no driving license but they are still a part of the traffic. And there is nothing we can do about these children in case of violations of car accidents. We have studied the global experience. There are 7 categories and 6 sub-categories of driving licenses around the world. We will in let them drive,” Kazakhstan Interior Minister Kalmukhanbet Kassymov said presenting the draft law On amendments to Kazakhstan’s legislative acts on road traffic in the Majilis (the lower chamber of Kazakhstan's parliament). After the new rules are adopted only the persons possessing driving licenses will be eligible for driving vehicles, the Minister added. “This is the first time that we consider registering vehicles that cannot exceed the speed of 50 km/h. This category includes (low-capacity) motorcycles, quads and scooters. Right now a person is not required to possess any kind of a driving license to drive this category of vehicles (which made them popular among children and young teenagers). Besides, we will introduce a in the law the clause officially allowing teenagers to drive these vesicles starting from the age of 16.
