Kazakhstan to counteract propaganda of same-sex marriages and lifestyles

Kazakhstan’s PM Serik Akhametov doesn’t rule out amendments into the country’s legislation to fend minors against propaganda of same-sex marriages, Interfax-Kazakhstan reports. “Given the current norms of the Family Code that doesn’t accept same-sex marriages, it’s no use drafting a special legislation covering same-sex partnerships and related issues,” the PM said. Article 11 of the Code doesn’t allow marriages between people of the same sex, Article 91 prohibits gay people from adopting children, Article 2 reads that a partnership between people of the same sex shall not be recognized as a marriage, he elaborated. At the same time the PM believes the nation needs some new legislation tools to fend minors off propaganda of same-sex marriages. “We could consider mechanisms to fend children off information promoting same-sex marriages and to set liability for those disseminating such information,” he said. Earlier Majilisman Bakhytbek Smagul at a Majilis (lower chamber) plenary sitting called to draft a law to eradicate same-sex relationships and close down all gay clubs.
