Juliette Binoche to come to Almaty for 7th Film Festival Eurasia

Famous French actress who received an Oscar for the English Patient Juliette Binoche will come to Almaty for the 7th International Film Festival Eurasia. Another Hollywood actor to attend the event is Owen Wilson famous for starring in Shanghai Knights, Wedding Crashers and Night at the Museum, Tengrinews.kz reports from the press-conference of the Film Festival organizers. This time the geography of the festival that will be held on September 19-24 will be expanded. Compared to the previous years, when mainly Central Asian movies were show at the festival, this year the festival will include European movies as well. By the end of July the commission will define the movies that will represent Kazakhstan. Sky of My Childhood by Rustem Abdrashov, first Kazakhstan 3D-movie Return to A by Egor Konchalovsky, action movie Liquidator by Akhan Satayev and historical movie Zheruiyk by Slambek Taukelov will compete for thw honor. Cinema experts say that Kazakhstan cinema has noticeably advanced compared to 5-6 years ago, when only 4 movies a year were shot. 27 movies were shot this year. Other Central Asia countries do not have similarly dynamic film industry. No movies were shot in Kyrgyzstan in the last year, while it was Kyrgyz filmmaker Aktan Abdykalykov who received grand-prix at the film festival in 2010 for the best story film Beshkempir. Kazakhstan was represented by two absolutely different movies: Tale of the Pink Bunny by Farkhat Sharipov and Akhan Satayev's The Lost One. Besides international contest, the festival will also include new programs, such as Virtual West, Changing East and Echo of Venice Festival. International jury will be headed by South Korean filmmaker Kim Ki-duk. The jury will also include Japanese movie-maker Yoichi Sai, peoples' artist of Russia Vladimir Khotinenko and French composer and actor Gilles Marchand. For the first time Eurasia Film Festival was held in 1998 with the support of Filmmakers Union in the form of a forum for movies from CIS and Baltic countries.
