11-year-old triple World Chess Champion Zhansaya Abdumalik, who might get into the Guiness Records Book as the youngest chess grandmaster, received a grant for free education in Kazakh-British Technical University (KBTU), Tengrinews.kz reports. “We give much attention to chess in KBTU, as the majority of our students are graduates of physics and mathematical schools. We think that this would help Zhansaya progress scientifically in one of these ares by creating a favorable atmosphere. The University will be doing everything possible to help talented people in Kazakhstan get all the support, they need,” the principal of KBTU Iskander Beissembetov said at the press-conference. Besides free education, the university is ready to bear all the expenses for future trips of Zhansaya to the world chess championships. “Of course, we did not expect such precious gifts and were very surprised that KBTU got interested in an 11-year-old kid,” Zhansaya's father Daniyar Ashirov said after receiving the grant. “This is a great act. Especially since many people dream to study in this university.” The awarding ceremony was held in KBTU. The event was attended by the girl's parents, the university principal Iskander Beissembetov, Executive Director of Almaty Chess-Players Union Sergei Kim, as well as international grandmaster and PhD student of KBTU Darmen Sadvakassov.
