Participants of the international expedition to K2 mount, also known as Chogori, continue their trip across China, Kazakh alpinist Maksut Zhumayev told Tengrinews.kz. During the stop in Kirgilik village the team almost lost its photographer Tommi Genrich. The Argentinian climber went to make photos of the surrounding landscapes and got lost. This incident delayed the expedition for three hours. "Nothing so terrible about that. There are more serious things. Everyone is very tired. And there are difficulties related to the road maintenance works that are being made all along the mountain roads in China. The road is very dusty and the trucks get in the way of our car caravan all the time," Zhumayev complained. On June 21, if there are no other emergencies, the expedition will switch from the cars to camels. The gorge and Shizgam river lie ahead of the expedition. "Our caravan will have 40-60 camels, each of them will carry 80 kg of goods. We have to bring such a large amount of supplies because the Shizgam River can be crossed without much difficulties in the beginning of summer, but by the month of July the water level raises making the river hardly possible to cross. So we won't be able to bring in more food and equipment later," the alpinist said. The goal of the expedition is to ascent the most northern eight-thousander: the 8611 meter tall Chogori. It is located in the Karakorum mountain range in Kashmir province (at the border between Pakistan and China). This is the sixth attempt to ascent K2 for Zhumayev.
