Kazakhstan to boost investments to West Europe – West China transport corridor

Investments into construction of the West Europe – West China transport corridor in 2011 will make up $1.1 billion, the Ministry of Transport and Communications reports. According to the Ministry’s press-release, a total of $65 million was invested in 2010. As of today, construction works are under way along 1 615 km, Interfax – Kazakhstan reports. Subcontracts have been signed with 19 entities, 5 of them being Kazakhstan-based companies. Currently, the project is employing 21.5 thousand people, with only 500 of them being foreigners. 2 787 km of the West Europe – West China transport corridor will run across Kazakhstan, notably across Aktyubinsk, Kyzylorda, South Kazakhstan, Zhambyl and Almaty oblasts. The construction works are to be completed by 2012. Construction costs for the Kazakhstan’s sector are estimated at $ 5.66 billion.
