SCO interior ministers' meeting took place in Astana

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Internal Affairs Ministers met in Astana on April 28, Tengrinews.kz reports. Kazakhstan Internal Affairs Minister Kalmukhanbet Kassymov opened the meeting. “Kazakhstan Ministry of Internal Affairs proposes to discuss a number of issues that would put our partnership into a new perspective. Kazakhstan proposes to address the issues of organized crime, drug trafficking, illegal migration, IT crimes and control over movements of organized criminal groups' members at the territory of our countries,” he said in the welcoming speech. Member of the State Council and Minister of the Public Security Meng Jianzhu, Ministers of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan and Russia Zarylbek Ryssaliyev and Rashid Nurgaliyev, deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan Said Dzhurakhonov and Uzbekistan Minister of Internal Affairs Bakhodir Matlyubov took part in the meeting. Before moving to the agenda in the beginning of the meeting SCO Secretary General Muratbek Imanaliyev complimented Kazakhstan Minister of Internal Affairs on his recent appointment. “It is quite symbolic that the second meeting of Internal Affairs Ministers is held in Astana prior to 10th anniversary of the SCO,” said Imanaliyev. Speaking about trans-border challenges the SCO member-states are facing he said: "Escalation of international crime, illegal drugs trafficking and illegal migration dictate a necessity for additional measures to enhance efficiency of the internal affairs bodies’ operations and step up public security of our countries,” he said. "There are no doubts in timeliness of interaction in the area of countering terrorism in its various manifestations. I am sure that decisions made today will give additional impulse to our cooperation and will encourage new lines of partnership,” Muratbek Imanaliyev said. Representatives of India, Iran, Mongolia and Paristan presented at the meeting as observers. A representative of Belarus attended the meeting as a partner. The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation is an intergovernmental mutual-security organisation. The SCO's current member-states are China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
