Oil production from the Kashagan field in Kazakhstan may be resumed in December, Tengrinews reports citing Kazakhstan Minister of Oil and Gas Uzakbai Karabalin. "It will be known after the results of all the analyses being made are ready. According to the contractors, it may take until mid-December," Karabalin said when asked about the Kashagan oil production restart dates. When asked to confirm that the production will be resumed after the mid-December he said: "Yes, I believe so." One of the prominent American newspapers reported last week that the oil production at the Kashagan field was going to remain halted until next year. The production at the giant oilfield started in September 2013. After that it has been suspended several times due to technological issues at the oilfield and supporting infrastructure. Kashagan is expected to produce around 8 million tons of oil in 2014. “The oil field is huge and one of a kind. At the same time the oil field is very complicated. Being an oil worker myself, I can say that it is one of the most difficult oil fields to develop in the world,” said Karabalin earlier. According to him, the development of the oilfield is complicated by the shallow waters that freeze up in winter, by high sulfurated hydrogen content and high pressure in the layers.
