Nazarbayev has launched a thermal power plant in Astana, Tengrinews.kz reports. The President of Kazakhstan officially launched the power plant noting that the promise given to Astana residents to provide heating for their houses was fulfilled. “We promised to put these facilities into operation so that the city does not freeze up like last year. We have fulfilled the promise,” President said and thanked the constructors and the employees of the power plant for the work performed. Construction of the boiler house started in 2008 and lasted for 4 years. The plan is to complete the start-up works by September 25. The power plant will be put into operation by the beginning of the heating season. The boiler house has the total capacity of 480 gigacalories/hour. It will improve the quality of water supply in Astana by covering the existing 300 gigacalories/hour deficiency of heat. The plant will have a reserve of 103 gigacalories. 33 billion tenge ($220 million) have been spent on construction of the thermal power plant No.2. The plan is to bring the heating energy capacity of the plant to 420 gigacalories and its electric capacity to 240 megawatt in 2013-2015. The first stage of the thermal power plant No.3 will be also constructed in 2015. Its construction was launched in August 2010 by Kazakhstan Prime-Minister Karim Massimov. The final stage of the construction will be completed by 2018; the capacity of the thermal power plant No.3 will exceed 800 gigacalories/hour. By Danial Okassov
