The National Nuclear Center of Kazakhstan has admitted that tourists are very interested in visiting the former Semipalatinsk Test Site, Tengrinews.kz reports. According to the center, a lot of foreign delegations, scientists and about 30 tourists visit the test site every year. "In my opinion, the Semipalatinsk Test Site should been included in the UNESCO heritage list and the National Nuclear Center supports this idea, too. We even developed a program at some point. But we are not a tourist agency and the only thing we can do is to support the project," the Director of Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology of National Nuclear Center of Kazakhstan Sergey Lukashenko said during today's press-conference. Lukashenko pointed out that Kazakhstan guests and visitors are very curious of the test site. They want to visit the half-ruined and melted concrete constructions, and the unique atomic lake. "People are very happy when they manage to arrange a visit and what's more important, they completely change their opinion of our test site after they visit it," the director said, adding that a few days ago several Russian bloggers visited the site.
