Kazakhstan’s KazAtomProm National Nuclear Company will submit to the Government suggestions on constructing a nuclear power plant in March, a Tengrinews.kz journalist reports, citing Samruk – Kazyna Sovereign Wealth Fund Head Umirzak Shukeev. “Let’s get to actual construction of a nuclear power plant”, President Nazarbayev said January 23 when addressing to KazAtomProm Nuclear Company Head Vladimir Shkolnik. “There have been many arguments over whether it’s better to have a nuclear power plant constructed in the center of the country or in Aktau, in West Kazakhstan. We should have a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan for a number of reasons (…) Let’s define a place and start actual talks with a partner (…)I task the Government with submitting specific suggestions in the H1 2013”, President said. Tengrinews.kz reported earlier, citing KazAtomProm’s Press Service, that Kazakhstan retains its title of the uranium production leader as it supplies about 37% of uranium to global markets. The global market’s capacity is estimated at 55 700 tons. The uranium production output in Kazakhstan made up 20 900 tons in 2012. In 2011 the country’s share in global uranium supplies stood at 35%. KazAtomProm, including its stakes in other companies, produced a total of 11 900 tons in 2012 (over 20% of global production). In 2011 the Company produced 11 079 tons.
