Eurocopter assembly facility to be launched in Kazakhstan June 29

June 29 Astana will see the new Eurocopter Kazakhstan Engineering (a JV between Eurocopter and Kazakhstan Engineering) assembly and maintenance center launched, Newskaz.ru reports, citing Kairat Tilebaldinov, Vice President of Kazakhstan Engineering. The agreement on establishing the JV was signed October 27, 2010 in France. “This agreement vests Kazakhstan with the exclusive right to sell Eurocopter-145 in the CIS and adjacent territories”, he elaborated. According to him, the facility will be producing up to 10 models a year. “Apart from assembly and maintenance, the center will be providing training services to both pilots and engineers. This will be the first ever training center in the CIS to provide trainings in Russian language”. According to Karybai Ablezov, Eurocopter Kazakhstan Engineering Commercial Director, assembly and maintenance operations will start as early as in August. The overall investments into the project stand at Euro 11.5 million, with half of that provided by the French side. Kazakhstan Engineering [fully owned by Samruk Kazyna Sovereign Wealth Fund] is a holding company comprising 25 defense industry facilities. Since April 2010 the Company has been managed by the Defense Ministry.
