Astana streets to get London-like video surveillance systems

Astana streets will be equipped with London-like video surveillance cameras. Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev gave the instruction at the meeting in Akorda (presidential residence) dedicated to hosting EXPO-2017, Tengrinews.kz reports. “Security issues are the priority. We have to train our policemen and all the others. We have an experience of holding an OSCE summit. We need to ensure security of the people who will be here. City streets have to be equipped with special video surveillance systems to monitor everything, just like in Monaco and London. Everything has to be seen: if someone leaves the bag or tries to misbehave,” President said. President also noted that Kazakhstan's business communities have to meet high requirements. “The existing capacities our companies cannot cope with such a scale. But, if possible, Atameken has to be involved,” he said. Besides, Nazarbayev stressed that regions have to be actively involved in preparing Astana for the EXPO. “This is a huge work. First of all, we have to distribute the scope of work among the regions based on the current competency. For example, southern regions are competent in food and light industry. North is proficient in food, agriculture and cattle breeding goods. Eastern and central regions are competent in engineering, etc. But making them build some of the facilities is also a load on the budget. We have to focus on what they are capable of,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said. Besides, the President instructed to once again review the plans of establishing a food belt around Astana. According to the President, it is necessary to prepare the regions for the inflow of tourists and select sights for visiting. “I guess, it will be Schuchinsk-Borovoye zone, Baikonur, Almaty, Pavlodar and the Caspian Sea. We need to provide good conditions, global level of service, signs in English,” the President added. “It is also important for our country to get an economic effect: the event should generate profit. Think of additional reserves for profit-making, direct and indirect profits during and after the exhibition,” the President said and instructed the government to work out the said issues in the nearest time.
