$550 million wind power plant to be built in Zhambyl Oblast

A new $550 million-worth wind power plant will be constructed in Zhambyl Oblast, Tengrinews reports citing the press office of the regional Akimat (Municipal authorities).

Akim (Mayor) of Zhambyl Oblast Karim Kokrekbayev arrived with an official visit to Shuisky District to check on the construction works of new social facilities. In particular, the Akim reviewed the wind power plant project in Shokpar village that is worth $550 million.

It is planned to commission the renewable energy resources project by the time the EXPO-2017 opens in Astana. The expected capacity of the new plant will go up to 250 MW per day. A Kazakhstani company WINDHAN along with Lithuanian investors will start the construction of the wind power plant next year. The new plant will be the largest in Kazakhstan’s renewable energy industry.

As of today, Zhambyl Oblast in Kazakhstan's south has five renewable energy plants with a total capacity of 15 MW. In addition, construction of the Merkensky hydro-electric power station (18 MW), the Zhanatas wind power station (100 MW), Zhambyl solar energy plant (24 MW), the K-2 wind power station (18 MW) is planned to begin in the nearest future, and the capacity of the Otar solar energy plant will be increased to 7 MW. Vista International plans to increase the capacity of a hydro-electric power station in Kordai region from 4 MW to 21 MW in 2015. The company has already received a quote on the electric capacity.

United Green and Samruk Kazyna Invest intend to develop solar energy project with the total capacity of 300 MW in the upcoming 3 years. The British company has already invested $5.4 million into construction of a plant with a capacity of 50MW. The projects will improve electricity supply in the region without causing any environmental harm. The projects will produce a total of 1440 MW of green energy.
