600 quotas for in-vitro fertilization (IVF) were allocated for 350 thousand infertile families in Kazakhstan in 2013, KazTAG reports citing chairman of the National Commission for Woman and Family-Demographic Policy Gulshara Abdykalikova. “There is a special quota. We started from quotas for only 100 people to apply and receive support in IVF per year, But this year’s number stands at 600. The families are getting their happiness, children are being born. IVF is developing every year. It is moving forward,” Abdykalikova said at the conference on reproductive health. However in the beginning of the year it was expected that the quota would make 700. "The number of quotas is increasing every year. 100 quotas were allocated in 2010, then 350 and 600 in the following years. The plan is to have 700 quotas in 2013," Dzhussubaliyeva said in February. According to Kazakhstan Healthcare Ministry, there are 300-350 thousand infertile families in Kazakhstan. “Unfortunately, the statistics doesn't look good,” Abdykalikova said. Meanwhile, professor Dov Feldberg said that Israel provided its citizens with a state insurance for IVF. “We have a state insurance that covers these services (IVF procedure). The first two kids come for free in our country. Our country is a country of wars; people die. We have to help our women, the medicine has to be at a high level,” he said on the sidelines of the conference. The first 100 quotas for IVF were allocated in Kazakhstan in 2010.
