Kazakhstan President instructed the government to properly manage the budget of EXPO-2017, Tengrinews.kz reports from the meeting on preparation and holding of the global exhibition. “We should not just take the money from the budget and spend it. If we do it this way, our citizens will have a negative attitude. Instead, we need a conscious, proper and well-thought-through approach. First of all, we have to clearly understand how much money we need and how much over the budget this sum is and, thus, how much private investments are required. It can’t be decided straight away, but we have to know at least some preliminary numbers. Secondly, we need get all the sources involved, including the state-private partnership, and start attracting private investors and sponsors available in Kazakhstan,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said and instructed the President’s Administration, the Government and Astana administration to jointly work on this issue. “As there will be significant amounts of money allocated for that, we need to think out the financing mechanism. Money use has to be transparent, both the money coming from the budget and from non-budget sources. We need to enhance control over the money,” President said. Besides, President challenged Astana Akim (Mayor) Imangali Tasmagambetov to ensure that Astana complies with the Global Exhibition standards. “There is a range of challenges for Astana: choosing best locations, accepting a massive inflow of visitors, etc. Not only EXPO facilities have to be at a high level, but Astana in general has to reflect the exhibition’s theme. This will boost development of Astana agglomeration. I am instructing Astana Akim and the Construction Agency to develop suggestions and submit them to the Prime-Minister’s commission. Agree on the and report to me,” Nazarbayev said. A special State Commission led by Kazakhstan Prime-Minister Serik Akhmetov will deal with organization of EXPO-2017. Besides the chairman, the state commission also has two deputy chairman. The commission has to secure good coordination among all the authorities in preparation and holding of the country’s most important event - EXPO-2017. By Gulnara Zhandagulova
