Gold coin dedicated to Asian Games sold for $60 thousand

A gold coin dedicated to the 7th Winter Asian Games-2011 that were held in Kazakhstan was sold for 9 million tenge ($60,8 thousand) in Atyrau, Ak Zhayik reports. The gold coin with a nominal value of 50 thousand tenge is made of triple nine gold. It weighs 1 kilogram. There were 145 such gold coins released in Kazakhstan in total. The sold coin was one of the three such coins in the holding of the Atyrau branch of the National Bank of Kazakhstan. A local resident purchased it. According to the bank's representative, both expats and local residents are interested in proof-like coins. National series of commemorative coins such as Silk Road, Flora and Fauna of Kazakhstan, Golden Panther usually attract foreigners. Local residents often purchase the coins as gifts. In 2010 the National Bank also designed and released one gold and two silver coins dedicated to the 2011 Asian Games. The gold coin with a nominal value of 100 tenge was made of triple nine gold and the bank released 8 thousand such coins. The sterling silver coin with a nominal value of 500 tenge was shaped as a dodecahedron and the bank released 13 thousand of them. The third coin was a sterling silver coin with a nominal value of 5 thousand tenge that weighed one kilogram. The central bank released 225 such coins.
