Commemorative coins dedicated to one hundred anniversary of Dinmukhamed Kunayev, a prominent Soviet public figure, were issued in Kazakhstan, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing the press-office of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It became known that 5000 silver coins with a nominal value of 500 tenge and 50 000 silver nickel coins with a nominal value of 50 tenge were issued on January 7, 2012. The coin is shaped as an octahedron and it is the main distinctive feature of the silver coin. “A three-dimensional image of Dinmukhamed Akhmetovich Kunayev is depicted on the back of his facial profile shown symbolically in the central part of the reverse of the coin. Facsimile of the signature and 2012, the year of release is placed under the image. National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan logo and D.A. Konaev 100 years lettering is written in Kazakh circumferentially on the right side of the coin,” the press release reads. Kunayev profile is also depicted at the reverse side of the coin with a nominal value of 50 tenge. D.A. Konaev 100 years lettering written in Kazakh is depicted on the top of the coin, 1912-2012, numbers that stand for the date of birth and the year of release of the coin is placed on the bottom,” National Bank officials said. Ealier Tengrinews.kz reported that red 5000 tenge banknotes have been issued in Kazakhstan recently. The photos of newly-designed banknote are available here. Dinmukhamed Akhmetuly Konayev born on January 12, 1912 in Verny, now Almaty, died on August 22, 1993 was a Kazakh Soviet communist politician.
