Scat aircraft careers off runway in Almaty airport

An AN-24 plane owned by Scat airline skid off the runway during landing in Almaty airport in Kazakhstan, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the company's press-service. The incident happened at 12:25 a.m. On February 7. The plane was performing a flight from Taraz to Almaty. There were 24 people onboard: 20 passengers and 4 crew members. No casualties were reported. The aircraft was not damaged. The plane was towed off to the parking spot after the engines were stopped. "After landing and roll-on in Almaty airport the An-24 plane taxied to a safety shoulder amid bad weather conditions (fog and limited visibility)," the company writes. According to the Central Communications Service, the passengers were evacuated after the landing. There have been no delays in relation to this incident, investigation is in process. According to a witness, the plane skid off its path during landing and its wing almost connected with the ground. The passenger said that during the landing one of the flight attendants "flew across the whole cabin" and received bruises and injuries, and the passengers who unbuckled their seat-belts too early fell out off their seats. On January 29 a Bombardier airplane owned by Scat airline crashed 7km from Almaty airport during its second attempt to land. According to the prosecutors, the plane was performing a Kokshetau-Almaty flight. The accident claimed lives of 5 crew members and 16 passengers including a 2-year-old boy. By Vladimir Prokopenko
