President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has expressed condolence to the Russian President Vladimir Putin over the Dalniy Vostok trawler that sunk in the Western Pacific Ocean, Tengrinews reports citing Akorda.

Nazarbayev personally and on behalf of all the Kazakhstanis expressed condolence to the families of the deceased and wished the soonest recovery to the injured.

AFP reported rescuers searching the freezing waters off Russia's Far East after the fishing boat sank in the Sea of Okhotsk, possibly after a collision, with the loss of at least 54 lives.

Some 132 people were on board the trawler Dalny Vostok when it went down at around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday (2030 GMT on Wednesday), off the coast of Kamchatka. Sixty-three people were rescued alive. Fifteen people are still missing.

Russian investigators said it included 78 Russian citizens, 42 Myanmar nationals, five from Vanuatu, three Latvians and four Ukrainians, without elaborating on the nationality of those who died.
